democratic

institutions

“Institutions are the rules of the game in a society; more formally, they are the humanly devised constraints that shape human interaction. Thus, they structure incentives in exchange, whether political, social, or economic. Institutional change shapes the way societies evolve through time and, hence, is the key to understanding historical change.”

Douglass North, 1992

Your host Stephan Kyburz

I am a political economist with a PhD in Economics from the University of Bern in Switzerland. I previously held positions as Research Fellow at the Department of Government of the London School of Economics and Political Science and as Visiting Fellow at the Center for Global Development. My research interests are in economic development, conflict studies, and political economy. I have decided to dedicate my time towards the public discussion of democratic institutions. I strongly believe in the wisdom of the people and the power of knowledge. People should be more aware of the political institutions that govern their lives.
